Today I drove a friend to the airport in SLC and we briefly stopped on
the way for to try for the snow bunting on the Antelope Island Causeway.
We didn't find the bunting, but we did manage to see all three SCOTERS.
Here is a digiscoped photo of the BLACK SCOTER:

The total list of bird species we saw along the causeway included (in
the order first seen):

Ring-billed gull

Northern pintail

Mallard

Northern pipit

Common raven

Killdeer

Bonaparte's gull

American avocet

Northern shoveler

Gadwall

Eared grebe

Lesser scaup

Long-tailed duck

Common goldeneye

Surf scoter

White-winged scoter

Black scoter

Northern harrier

California gull

American kestrel

On my way back to Logan, I spotted two EURASIAN COLLARED DOVES in Cache
Valley, where Hwy 89 intersects Logan's 1100W. I know these have been
reported in Cache County before, but this is the first time I've seen
them here. Here is a digiscoped photo:

I also stopped briefly at the Logan Landfill and the pond across the
road which is now part of the Logan River Wetlands complex. Here I saw
hundreds of California gulls, with a few ring-billed gulls, eight
Bonaparte's gulls, three mallards, and one rock pigeon.

Good birding,

Ryan
