[Birdtalk] Snipe?

I haven't followed this discussion closely but Mark makes an excellent
point. Snipe seem to "call" from a different location every time
because they are actually flying around. While I've seen Boreal Owl
sing in flight more than once they typically are stationary when singing
as are the other owl species being considered.

While the subject of Boreal Owl is being discussed and I know there are
a number of UT birders trying to find them I would suggest that you
don't overlook lower elevation locations, especially near where birds
have been seen in winter recently. I was always told I had to go up
high to find them in spring but we consistently find them at 6500 feet
elevation (or so) in Douglas Fir/Lodgepole/Aspen forests, sometimes with
Subalpine Firs mixed in. If they are present they are easy to find as
they sing incessantly all night long. I wish you all luck next spring
and I wish I could join the search. It's addicting.
