Amazing numbers of mountain birds seem to be coming down this year despite the warm temps we have been having in southern Utah. I've been seeing Clark's Nutcracker's daily here in Central and in very large numbers at times. Flocks of 50 to 100 have been common at times. A drive on Saturday from my house in Central Through Pinto to Pine Valley and back to Central I would guess I saw 300 to 400 Nutcracker's. It's crazy I don't know where they are all coming from. I felt like I was having a Alfred Hitchcock flashback.
Also in my yard in the last couple weeks there have been Evening Grosbeak's, Red-breasted Nuthatches,Mountain Chickadees,Stellar Jays,Lewis's Woodpeckers lots of Pinion Jays,Pine Siskin's and Cassin's Finches. I'm thinking this might be a good year for Bohemian Waxwings or Common Redpolls to show up this far south.
Look for a Snowy or Hawk owl to show up in northern Utah.
