[Birdtalk] A sad passing . . .

While filling my feeders yesterday I made a sad discovery - the
half-eaten body of a Northern Flying Squirrel below the feeders. i'd
been enjoying his nightly visits for most of this season - maybe
there's more than one? From the remains I suspect the local Screech-Owl
. . .
On a happier note - a Hermit Thrush came by this morning to sample bit
of apple, and a Spotted Towhee has been around, along with all the
regulars and the continuing mountain visitors - Mountain Chickadees (as
many as four), a Red-breasted Nuthatch, Cassin's Finches and Pine
Siskins. A White-breasted Nuthatch still comes by occasionally.
It's not a "scoter-fest" at the causeway, but for those of us bound to
the home office, it's not bad. But Mexico is calling, time to migrate
soon . . .
