Hi all,

I was down in the San Rafael Swell this past weekend.

A number of good juniper species were heard and seen around our campsite
near Buckhorn Draw Road (which is reached by taking the first exit off of
I-70 west of the I-70 & US 24 interchange. Many of these birds breed
throughout the pinyon-juniper habitat in the swell...

Prairie Falcon, Violet-green Swallow, White-throated Swift, singing GRAY
FLYCATCHERS, Horned Lark, PINYON JAYS, Western Scrub-Jay, singing GRAY
VIREO, Mountain Bluebird, JUNIPER TITMOUSE, singing BLACK-THROATED GRAY
WARBLERS, House Finch, Lark and Black-throated Sparrows.

After some recent information on Spotted Owl whereabouts, I believe there is
a lot of great habitat throughout the swell. Though not surprisingly, I
only heard Great-horned Owls from our campsite.

We also went for a hike along the upper sections of Muddy Creek to Poor
Canyon where Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, BLUE GROSBEAK, Lazuli Bunting and
Lesser Goldfinches were heard. In addition, hundreds of Horse (or Deer)
Flies were observed too close for comfort...
