I spent the day mostly in pinion-juniper habitat, this morning in Juab
county and this afternoon in Utah county. I traveled the road that cuts
west from Highway 132 (between Nephi and Leamington) and runs out past
Jericho Junction and the Little Sahara Sand Dunes to Cherry Creek,
returned to Nephi and drove through Mona and then past the west side of
the reservoir, went down Goshen canyon, explored Elberta, and returned
through Goshen. The best bird of the day was the rose-breasted grosbeak
seen at Cherry Creek which I reported earlier to Birdnet (thanks Eric!).
I also observed several different Scott's orioles in Juab county along
the Jericho Junction cut-off described previously. Several golden eagles
were seen today, as were nesting red-tailed and Swainson's hawks. I also
enjoyed the sage sparrows that live by the turn-off to the sand dunes.
