This evening my wife and I found a pair of Flammulated Owls calling to each other near the top of Green Canyon. The birds were on opposite sides of the canyon from each other and were singing. We also heard Common Poorwills singing. On our way to Green Canyon this evening we stopped at Cutler Marsh where we heard an American Bittern singing. With all of the traffic sounds coming from Highway 30, I played the Stokes recording of the bittern just to make sure that I was hearing a bittern. I was a little surprised as I played the bittern sound to find myself surrounded by several Common Yellow-throats singing at me. I then realized that in the background of the bittern recording there was a Common Yellow-throat singing and it attracted the aggressive males in the area. They are really beautiful birds.
Thanks.
