Wasatch Audubon chose Harold Crane WMA in Box Elder and Weber Counties for the field trip this month. The area is usually closed at this time of year, however, we asked and were granted permission to enter by DWR personnel.

The bird list included:

Canada Goose
Gadwall
American Wigeon
Mallard
Cinnamon Teal
Northern Pintail
Green-winged Teal
Lesser Scaup
Common Goldeneye
Ruddy Duck
Pied-billed Grebe
Clark's Grebe
American White Pelican
Double-crested Cormorant
Great Blue Heron
Northern Harrier
Red-tailed Hawk
Bald Eagle
Virginia Rail (audible)
American Coot
Sandhill Crane
American Avocet (in the playas south of Willard Bay)
California Gull
Caspian Tern (just one)
Tree Swallow
Marsh Wren
Song Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Red-winged Blackbird
Yellow-headed Blackbird

We also stopped at Willard Bay's South Marina in Box Elder County on the way home. The water didn't hold too many birds, but we did see:

Female Merganser spp.
Western or Clark's Grebe
American White Pelican
Double-crested Cormorant
Killdeer
California Gull
Franklin's Gull (a few in the gull crowd in the water east of the marina)

Jack Rensel and Keith Evans mentioned that they saw two female LONG-TAILED DUCKS on Antelope Island Causeway in Davis County yesterday.
