[Birdtalk] Pineview Birding

I drove a circuit around Pineview Reservoir in Weber County today looking for anything new. The new thing is open water. The reservoir is still about 2/3 ice, but it's thin and melting quickly. I expect all of it to be gone by this weekend. All the reservoirs along the Wasatch Back should be melting and improving with spring migrants.

Bird life included a couple winter hangers-on: Herring and Ring-billed Gulls and Bald Eagles, and then a few spring or year-round regulars:

Canada Goose
American Wigeon
Mallard
Green-winged Teal
Scaup spp.
Common Merganser
Great Blue Heron
Sandhill Cranes calling; never saw them
California Gull
Belted Kingfisher

And that's it. But it's a huge improvement from just a week ago.
