Box Elder County:
-- The Harris's Sparrow at Willard Bay and was most recently
reported by Tim Avery and Dave Slager on March 3rd. The bird was
seen at Campground #1 in the Willow Creek Unit.
-- A White-throated Sparrow at Willard Bay and was most
recently reported by Tim Avery and Dave Slager on March 3rd. The bird was
seen at Campground #1 in the Willow Creek Unit.
-- An estimated flock of 15,000 Snow and Ross's Geese were reported by Kris
Purdy in a stubbled cornfield 2 miles west of the center of Corinne and south
of SR-83 across from the Wal-Mart distribution center on March 10th.
Paul Higgins reported seeing the flock there again at dawn on March 11th.
Best viewing is from 24OON. in Corinne.
-- Members of Wasatch Audubon also saw a single Ross's Goose in the east unit at
Salt Creek WMA from the Compton's Knoll viewing area on March 10th.
Davis County:
-- The 3rd winter WESTERN GULL continued at Farmington Bay on March 3rd
and 4th and was seen by numerous birders on the 3rd
and by Kris Purdy on the 4th. The bird was at the canal flowing north at
the main parking area. Unfortunately, the road to the lot
is closed 'til September and only accessible on foot or by bike.
-- Three Thayer's Gulls were reported by Tim Avery at Farmington Bay WMA
on March 3rd. 2 adults and 1-1st winter bird were seen feeding in
the canal at the main parking lot. Dave Slager, Jack Binch, Geoff
Hardies and Tony Jones also were present and observed the birds.
-- An adult Glaucous Gull was seen by numerous birders flying over the
main parking lot at Farmington Bay WMA on March 3rd. The bird was also
seen near the 1st bridge on the rest pond.
Millard County:
-- A Drake EURASIAN WIGEON was reported by Eric Huish who was part of a
Utah County Birders on a Field Trip that found the bird
at Clear Lake WMA just south of Delta on March 3. No specific
information about the birds location was given.
Uinta:
-- Greater Scaup were reported at Ouray NWR by Clay Johnson on March 11th.
Washington County:
-- A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, likely a female but still mostly in
Juvenile plumage was reported by Larry Tripp at Lytle Ranch on March 2nd.
The bird was in the cottonwoods near the entrance gate.
-- The Harris's Sparrow at Lytle Ranch was most recently
seen by Larry Tripp on March 2nd between the bathrooms and the water drip.

March 14th (Wed): Utah County Birders Meeting - Time, Location & Speaker

March 14th (Wed): Wasatch Audubon Society birdwalk - Llama View - Walk the canal
in Pleasant View where birds and llamas might be available to see and llamas to
pet. Meet at 8:15 at McDonald's (Washington & 2600 N., N. Ogden for breakfast,
or at 8:45 to carpool.
March 17th (Sat): Red Cliffs Audubon Field Trip - Condors and Lee's
Ferry, It's time to go check on the Condors and then to Lee's Ferry.
Mike Small from the BLM will lead this trip. Meet at 8:00 AM at the BLM
in St.George or Judds Gas Station in Fredonia at 9:30 AM.
March 17th (Sat): Great Salt Lake Audubon Field Trip - LOOKING FOR
TRACKS and SIGNS - Leader: Bruce Thompson - Come and learn from an
expert. Bruce will lead us off from Mirror Lake Highway above Kamas.
This location features some of the widest variety of tracks and signs.
Our route will consist of deep, untrailed snow along uneven woodland,
meadow and stream side terrain over a distance of 1-2 miles over the
course of the day. We will move at a speed appropriate to a mixed age
and observant group, stopping to talk and explore frequently, but travel
may at times be strenuous simply due to deep snow and terrain. People
need to be FIT! Snowshoes only; no skis. (The two don't mix well for
large-group tracking.) No dogs. Minimum age of 12. Group size limited to
15. YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THIS TRIP. Participants should bring:
snowshoes (poles advised), layered clothing, well insulated boots, a
warm hat, warm gloves or mittens, sunglasses, ample water, lunch and
snacks, a tracking field guide, a comfortable day pack. Call Kathy
Coleman at 944-5773 to register and to learn details of the meeting place.
