I've been trying to find out since Tuesday about the status of the gates to the west dike at Egg Island at Farmington Bay. Finally, I heard third hand today that they are, in fact, closed to vehicles for the season. No one has been able to say whether those gates will be open for Tundra Swan Day on Saturday, March 10. It doesn't much matter anyway for the sake of swans. They're so far away they're out of scope range at 60x.
The gate closure means that if you wish to travel to the end of the west dike where all the rare gulls have been seen, you need to walk or ride your bike--something I'm not likely to do with a scope and tripod on my shoulder; the round-trip distance is 3-4 miles.
