Message: Hi all,
I would like to go owling this week for the flammulated and/or western screech owls. I would appreciate some advice in determining a location where there has been a recent sighting or where they are generally easier to find. What time they are most vocal? Are recordings absolutely necessary (I am kind of a purist in this regards)? If so are there better times in the season to use recordings that are less disturbing to the owls? Any other thoughts or suggestions would be welcome. I recognize that finding an owl is as much luck as anything but, it doesn't hurt to be as educated as possible before heading out! Thanks for your help.
