[Birdtalk] Lots of Fledglings

Today, we saw our first group of fledgling quail, a group of about 10
little just-hatched "chestnuts," with mom and dad Quail. We've had baby
Chickadees fledge from a bird feeder that is now in use as a nest by the
Chickadees for the second year in a row. We've a Robin's nest that has
be very active and noisy for the past week, and the young are still in
the nest, while there have been other juvenile Robins just learning to
fly and bumping into windows and branches. There is a Finch's nest on
the side of our house tucked in high up in some Ivy. The finches
fledged several days ago, up until which time they were very active,
parents feeding.... I saw an immature Grosbeak flying up into our "bird
tree" today. (A dead bare Blue Spruce that I have not cut-down just so
the birds have a high place to land.) No exotics for the listers, but
lots of late spring juvenile birds hatching and learning to fly. A
high-point for someone who notices and enjoys the bird sounds and
activity in one's own backyard.
