[Birdtalk] harassment ?

We've all seen small birds go after hawks or owls, especially at this
time of year, but how's this for something new?

While looking for Bobolinks (which we found) near Heber on Sunday we
observed a Raven flying in low and then perching on a fence post. In
the adjacent field were some cows with calves. As soon as the Raven
landed one of the cows headed straight towards it. The Raven flew two
fence posts further away and the cow, together with more of the herd,
again walked straight towards it. The Raven moved again.

We know that Ravens are opportunistic and are a threat to other
birds. Could they have been a threat to the calves also? I don't know
but it certainly looked to me as though the cows wanted that Raven
out of there.

Fascinating. It's amazing what you see when you look!!
