All this reporting has pushed me to catch up on our own sightings.
On May 20, we did a second May Big Day in Summit Co., besting our total
of the week before with 94 species. Forgive me if I don't list the
birds. Together the two days of birding resulted in 106 species for the
month of May in Summit Co.
May 27 we did our BBS out by Grantsville (Tooele Co.). A few less
species (28) than average, but some nice sightings including 5 Northern
Mockingbirds, a Burrowing Owl, and the first Ash-throated Flycatcher in 7
years of surveys. Interesting that the usually abundant Horned Larks and
Western Meadowlarks were at 50% or less of their normal numbers.
After our survey, we checked out J.W.Fitzgerald WMA (aka Faust
Reservoir). We saw 21 species, including a Common Loon and 2 Horned
Grebes.
On May 28, we did a Big Day in Morgan Co. (6am to 11pm) totaling 91
species (sorry Mark). We started at the Henefer Sage Grouse Lek, headed
to Morgan via Hwy's 65 and 66, visited Stoddard Slough WMA, journeyed up
to Lost Creek Reservoir, then backtracked to Morgan and up Hwy 66 to East
Canyon Reservoir, and ended in East Canyon. The birds seen and heard
