[Birdtalk] Saturday 6/2

On a road trip around the west side of Utah Lake, leaving Salt Lake  
county via Redwood road, we saw:

Common Ravens
Barn Owl
2 Golden Eagles (display flights)
Heron rookery
American pelicans
Meadow larks
Horned larks (one early flighted chick)
Night hawks
Swainson's hawk
LB Curlews
Short-eared owl
Magpies
Red-winged blackbirds
American Avocets
Mallards
Red-tailed hawk (one 2nd year molting its juv. feathers)


Also observed a large Great Basin Gopher snake stalk and take a young  
kangaroo rat. The kr appeared not be in good health. The snake made  
very quick work of the meal, leaving absolutely no trace of the rat  
(bulge) after the snake fully swallowed it. Very facinating to see this.
