I figure with the encouraging to post I would today. I have been out birding, just haven't posted for a bit. Today I drove up this morning on the nebo loop road out of Payson in Utah County. Just past the Payson Lakes Turn off is a hiking trail and parking lot signed Rock Springs. I hiked the Rock Springs trail from the parking lot to Lizard Lake and back. 6 miles roundtrip. This was extremely birdy. The highlight was a male Three-toed Woodpecker along the trail about 2 miles in. I know they are seen up in this area. But still an amazing bird. The scenary was just as amazing as well and not a bad hike at all. nothing steep. My list is below of what I saw along the area.
Mourning Dove
Broad-tailed Hummingbird
Nothern Flicker
Three-toed Woodpecker
Warbling Vireo
Tree Swallow
Violet-green Swallow
Mountain Bluebird
American Robin
Hermit Thrush
Yellow-rumped Warbler
MacGillivary's Warbler
Western Tanager
Green-tailed Towhee
Chipping Sparrow
Lincoln's Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Black-headed Grosbeak
Brown-headed Cowbird
Pine Siskin
I am sure I forgot some that I saw. Plus was with people so did the best I could for being rushed along. But it was very birdy along the entire trail. Worth the hike.
