[Birdtalk] My first posting

Welcome to this site Gayla, and enjoy "Your Scrub Jays!" "My Jays" come in for peanuts every day, and squawk if they aren't out on the tray. They love taking and hiding them, then coming back for more before the next jay comes along. I have been putting meal worms out for "MY Bullocks Orioles," but "My Jays" get there first, and the "My Orioles" never see them.
As you may note, the birds really do become "Yours", as soon as they are in your sight, and especially when they are in your yard. My next door neighbor calls the quail in his yard "his", but in reality they are "Mine," since I'm the one feeding them. Just makes sense doesn't it?
Right now I have several different groups of young California Quail chicks hanging out in the yard, as parents keep a very watchful eye on them. Yesterday I noticed a group of older chicks with one chick being much smaller. My guess is it came from other parents, and somehow followed the wrong group. The little guy or gal, was getting along just fine. At any rate watching, and enjoying the birds is certainly a way to relax, and keep our minds learning and growing as well. Enjoy "Your Birds!"

I am a novice to bird watching and this is my first posting, so I hope I do it right (you know that terrible fear of embarrassing yourself in front of your peers - right?). For the last three days I have been thoroughly entertained by Western Scrub-jays gathering walnuts from under my neighbor's walnut tree. Some try to crack them open there while others fly off with them. You cerainly know when they are around with their sharp calls!
