especially near Montezuma Creek Canyon and areas south and east...

Hello,
While Dean and Mona were off to Cortez today, I was on my own in the
Lewis area and found two Chihuahuan Ravens. They were first heard
(odd "whaak", somewhat rising) and then seen perched on the tin roof
of a barn. It was quite breezy at the time and the wind ruffled
their feathers in such a way the white neck feather bases were
evident entirely ringing that region of their upper bodies, including
down onto the breast. While I've seen many dozens of Chihuahuan
Ravens in southeastern CO, this is the best I have ever been able to
observe the white feather bases at fairly close range. The birds
actually went under the roof onto hay bales, spent some time perched
in cottonwoods, and then flew off (slimmer profile than typical
Common Ravens) and out of sight to the north (heading toward Pleasant
View/Dove Creek). I am certain of the identification. Apparently
this is an unusual sighting for southwestern CO.
