(originally sent Tuesday evening, 7/17/07, but bounced)

A long hot summer--nothing fancy going on in my little 100-acre wood, aka
backyard....that is, until this evening. Was it the huge downpour that
caused it? Don't know, but what a great downpour. So Carma and I are out on
the deck soaking in the cloudy evening, when what to our surpise a 2-point
buck came bounding across the Mountain View Golf Course towards our homes
that border the SE corner (near #13). Where he came from was a mystery.
Where he was headed was obviously in the wrong direction, what with 12'
fencing bordering nearly the entire course.

Thinking about the "once in ten years" wildlife occurrences (we've been here
10.5 years), our list now includes two California Quail, a Ruby-Crowned
Kinglet, Eurasian Collared Dove, Pigeon-Plucking Peregrine Falcon and now a
White-Tailed Deer. Quite a motley mix. Once again proof that even in
suburbia, if you keep your eyes open, you'll see stuff. Or should I say, if
you build a deck, they will come. :)
John

PS: Saw my first Rufous Hummingbird last evening at Silver Lake, Brighton
area.
