I have had a wonderful spring and summer of nest gazing around the yard I thought I would pass on. I have a 40ft Blue Spruce that has been a packed apartment this year. A House Sparrow, House Finch, Brewer's Blackbird, Western Kingbird, and Black-chinned Hummingbird all had nests in the tree at the same time. They nested from the top of the tree down as listed. The hummingbird nest was a short 5 feet from a window. I have also had several American Robin nests in apple trees and Brewer's Blackbird nests in Lilac shrubs. I had a Black-capped Chickadee nest in a cavity in an apple tree. The cavity was only 1 foot off the ground but the young made it. I also have had two Say's Phoebe nests in the yard, one in a small cavity on my porch. A very noisy (often at 4:00 am) Bullock's Oriole also nested in one of my Box Elder trees. The most recent additions have been a Yellow Warbler (in a Box Elder tree), Western Wood-Pewee (in an Elm tree, and Barn Swallow (on my house). All these nest are within 50 yards of my house. A bit farther out I have had several Western Meadowlark and Savannah Sparrows nests in the nearby pastures A brood of sage-grouse has recently started using the fields next to my house and have survived the raccoons and red fox.
