[Birdtalk] Yard Nesting

I have had a wonderful spring and summer of nest gazing around the yard I thought I would pass on.  I have a 40ft Blue Spruce that has been a packed apartment this year.  A House Sparrow, House Finch, Brewer's Blackbird, Western Kingbird, and Black-chinned Hummingbird all had nests in the tree at the same time.  They nested from the top of the tree down as listed.  The hummingbird nest was a short 5 feet from a window.  I have also had several American Robin nests in apple trees and Brewer's Blackbird nests in Lilac shrubs.  I had a Black-capped Chickadee nest in a cavity in an apple tree.  The cavity was only 1 foot off the ground but the young made it.  I also have had two Say's Phoebe nests in the yard, one in a small cavity on my porch.  A very noisy (often at 4:00 am) Bullock's Oriole also nested in one of my Box Elder trees.  The most recent additions have been a Yellow Warbler (in a Box Elder tree), Western Wood-Pewee (in an Elm tree, and Barn Swallow (on my house).  All these nest are within 50 yards of my house.  A bit farther out I have had several Western Meadowlark and Savannah Sparrows nests in the nearby pastures  A brood of sage-grouse has recently started using the fields next to my house and have survived the raccoons and red fox.
