One eye on the road, one eye on the sky...am I a distracted driver?
Came out of hyperspace today just south of the I-215 overpass on Redwood Road (about 60th South). Just then my eye caught glimpse of something unusual, flying directly away from my line of sight where pigeons would normally be seen flying. Obi Wan sitting next to me said, "That's no pigeon, that's a Death Star." The object landed on the first power pole north of the overpass on the West side of Redwood just prior to being obscured by the juxtapositon of my approach to the overpass.
Coming out the other side, anxious to see this UFO (unusual flying object), I quickly made eye contact with a masked bandit. It was in fact a Peregrine Falcon complete with pluckable object in tow. SCORE!!!
I don't know why I should be surprised. These guys are apparently everywhere! Still, the sight of a Peregrine having lunch in the middle of traffic (right next to I-215, right next to Redwood Rd), close to noon, on a pole that didn't exceed 30' in height sort of peaked my "Weird Stuff" meter to the max.
Anyway, glad I was priveledged to see it! A heartwarming story about nature's method of controlling "overpass pigeons".
John...forever the "car birder"
:)
