We went out to Farmington Bay yesterday morning and there was very little open water and not a lot of activity but we did see some nice birds. There were 3 Bald Eagles, only one Barn Owl hunting along the canal edges, one Short Earded Owl hanging out next to the unit one road, a dozen Great Blue Herons standing in in the field just north of the first water flow on unit one and several others along the road on the east side of the main road just one was staning in the open water. One beautiful Rough Legged Hawk just west of Goose Egg island, a few Northern Harriers and Kestrels, Some Pintails resting on the ice, and what looked to me like 5 Western Sandpipers in the open water at the 4 way intersection by Turpin.
Happy birding
Steve
