Thanks to Tim for taking the initiative to develop the Utah rare bird alert.
I see this new report as helping birders in multiple ways. First, if you're
more interested in rare birds rather than the common ones, Tim sifts through
the daily reports and provides you the synopsis. Second, if you're away from
your internet access, you can check the RBA to see if any new rarities have
been posted in your location since you were last on the internet. Third and
important for Utah, I think, the RBA gives travelers to our state a way to
check a timely bird report while they, too, are away from the internet.
A friend of mine who doesn't own a computer has often cited a business card
he keeps in his wallet with multiple states' rare bird alert phone numbers.
He can check the reports while he's traveling to learn of celebrity birds
being reported in his away-from-home location. The Utah rare bird alert will
now provide this service for our state as well.
Bill and the Wild Bird Center of Layton continue their long-term support of
the bird line and use Tim's new report to keep us updated.
Thanks again, Tim and Bill, for your efforts to communicate bird info to our
community.
Kris
