Just a quick note. Several local birders have been working to get a 
daily rare bird alert up on the web and posted to the birdtalk listerv. 
This is going to be a trial run to see if it is worth the time to put 
together and continue down the road. Sightings can be reported via phone 
and email. 801-538-4730 is the phone number for the Utah Rare Bird 
Alert, and for the time being utah-rba at timaverybirding.com is the email 
address for the alert. If you have any questions or comments about this 
daily RBA please fell free to contact me. Also if you have any 
improvements or other recommendations, please let me know as well! ~

Box Elder County:

-- A flock of 35 Snow Geese was reported by Kris Purdy. The birds flew 
over the road to Bear River NWR a couple miles west of I-15 on February 16.

-- A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW continued at the Willard Bay Willow Creek 
Campground and was reported by Tim Avery on February 10.

-- A juvenile HARRIS'S SPARROW continued at the Willard Bay Willow Creek 
Campground and was reported by Stephen Carlile on February 10. The bird 
was in the brush on the paved trail, at the northwest end of the 
campground.

-- A flock of American Tree Sparrow's were reported by Kris Purdy at 
Salt Creek WMA on February 10. The birds were in a small manmade pool on 
the slope just west of the observation pavilion.

-- 5 drake Cinnamon Teal were reported by Kris Purdy at Salt Creek WMA 
on February 10.


Cache County:

-- A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was reported by Ryan O-Donnell and Stephanie 
Cobbold along the Canal Trial in Logan on February 13.


Davis County:

-- 2 female LONG-TAILED DUCK were reported by Dave Slager and Tim Avery 
along the Antelope Island Causeway on February 17.

-- An adult Northern Shrike was reported by Dave Slager and Tim Avery on 
the road to Garr Ranch on Antelope Island on February 17.

-- A pair of Cinnamon Teal were reported by Kris Purdy at Farmington Bay 
WMA on February 16.

-- 2 Merlin were reported by Kris Purdy on power poles about a quarter 
mile apart on South Harrison Blvd in Ogden on Ferbuary 16.

-- An adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was reported by Tim Avery at 
Farmington Bay WMA on February 10 and was seen again on February 11, by 
Ed Leite.

-- A 2nd winter Glaucous Gull has been reported by several individuals 
at Farmington Bay WMA between Feb 10-12.

-- An adult GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL was reported by Ed Leite at Farmington 
Bay WMA on February 11. The bird was near the first bridge on the main 
road.

-- 2 TRUMPETER SWAN were reported at by Sylvia Gray at Farmington BAY 
WMA on February 10. The birds were seen the 9th, including one bird that 
sported a green neck collar. Tim Avery was able to relocate and 
photograph on adult bird on February 10.

-- An adult "Bewick's" race Tundra Swan was reported by Tim Avery at 
Farmington Bay WMA on February 10.


Millard County:

-- A blue morph Ross's Goose was reported by Paul Higgins at Gunnison 
Bend Reservoir on February 12. He received the report form Lynn Cubeck 
who said there are about 3,000 Snow Geese present and more arriving daily.

San Juan County

- 3 SCALED QUAIL continue to be seen at Montezuma Canyon and were most 
recently reported by Steve Carr on February 9.


Utah County:

-- A Bewick's Wren was reported by Tim Avery at the Swede Lane Parking 
area on February 11.
-- 3 Cinnamon Teal were reported by Tim Avery at the end of the Skipper 
Bay Trail at Utah Lake State Park on February 11.


Wasatch County

-- A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was reported by Ned Bixler at Deer Creek 
Reservoir on February 18th. No specific information on the birds 
location was given.

Upcoming Birding Events:

February 20th (Tue): Wasatch Audubon Society Meeting - Sharp-tailed 
Grouse in Utah: Ron Greer, Habitat Restoration Biologist for Utah DWR 
has been working with the Sharp-tails and native habitats in northern 
Utah and will share his knowledge and experiences. Ron has suggested a 
Spring field trip as a follow-up activity to observe these interesting 
birds in courtship display. At the Ogden Nature Center (966 W 12th).

February 21st (Wed): Wasatch Audubon Society Bird Walk - Kays Creek 
Parkway: Meet at 8:15 at McDonald's (5745 S. Harrison) for breakfast, or 
meet there at 8:45 for carpooling to the trail access.

February 24th (Sat): Salt Lake Birders Field Trip - Meet at the Shopko 
lot at 8:00 a.m. to carpool down to Delta for the first day of their 
annual Snow Goose Festival. Call Bob MacDougall for details.

February 24th (Sat): Wasatch Audubon Society Eagle Count - Meet at 8:00 
at DWR (515E 5300S, South Ogden) for carpooling to the Spring Chicken 
Inn for breakfast. We’ll then head out to East Canyon. Bring a lunch.

February 28th (Wed): Wasatch Audubon Society Bird Walk - Farmington Bay 
with GSL Audubon: Meet at 8:00 in the Macy's parking lot on Riverdale 
Rd. for carpooling. We'll join GSL Audubon for breakfast at McDonald's 
in Centerville and then tour the bay.
