The Utah County Birders made the trip to Farmington Bay Yesterday for Bald
Eagle Day.

We had heard that there weren’t good numbers of eagles this year but when we
got there we were pleased to see MANY Bald Eagles. I counted 70 Eagles from
one spot and we saw at least 100 Eagles in and around Farmington Bay. Not as
many as past years but I guess good enough.

There were also lots and lots of people out for the Official Bald Eagle Day.
It was good to see so many people out enjoying birds.

We didn’t see the Trumpeter Swans or the Bewick’s Swan but we were there in
the morning with the sun behind the birds and reflecting off the ice. I did
scan for a neck collar but it was hard to look at the swans for long.
(that’s my excuse anyway).

We looked closely at many gulls (the close ones) but couldn’t find anything
exciting. They must only come in at night (another excuse).

Farmington Bay had lots of waterfowl. Most interesting were a Canvasback
and a few Cinnamon Teal here and there.

We had great fun and it was a beautiful day. We saw about 40 species at
Farmington Bay.

Look for a full field trip report in the March UCB Newsletter.
