While at the GSL Shorelands Preserve near Layton yesterday we
observed some interesting interactions between a Prairie Falcon and a
Bald Eagle. The falcon seemed to be chasing the eagle and came close
to tweeking its tail whereupon the eagle turned on the falcon and
began chasing it. Being much faster and more maneuverable the falcon
easily escaped but then the whole scenario repeated itself. It was a
battle in the sky and against a blue sky it was fascinating to watch.
Eventually the falcon flew off.
Earlier in the day, at Farmington Bay we observed many Tundra Swans
and a pair of Trumpeters, one of whom was sporting a green neck-band.
Rich Hansen, the manager at F.Bay said it was banded in 2002 at West
Yellowstone. Pretty cool.
