I told myself I was going to post to birdtalk more this year. Even if I
didn’t see anything super fantastic. I always enjoy reading everyone’s
reports but I’ve been to lazy to post my own.

KC Childs and I birded Western Utah County and Tooele County yesterday
(2-3-07) looking for Longspurs. There are “dozens” up North (B.E. Co.) and
“dozens” down South (Wash. Co.) But there is nothing in the middle. We were
able to find one large flock of Horned Larks and a few smaller flocks but we
couldn’t pick out anything exciting.

We found two Eurasian Collared-Doves in Fairfield and KC found a Great
Horned Owl in the Camp Floyd Cemetery. Lots of Rough-legged Hawks
Everywere, Some Bald and Golden Eagles around and a Prairie Falcon in
Vernon.

My sister told me the day before about a Barn Owl that is hanging out at
Liddiard’s, I think it is called, a furniture store across the street from
Home Depot in Tooele. We found the owl on top of a pillar under the porch
at the service entrance. The Barn Owl looked to be missing some feathers on
it’s head. It was a County lifer for both of us.

On our way home we tried to find the Varied Thrush that is being seen at the
little nature center on the Jordan River Parkway. We found the spot.
Looked and looked for the bird but never saw it. The Hermit Thrushes and
Yellow-rumped Warblers were fun even if we struck out on the Varied Thrush.
