Subject: [IBLE] Rare Birds Yearbook
Although not directly Idaho bird related, I believe that this is an issue
that should concern every birder or bird enthusiast no matter their official
place of residence.
The 2007 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species showed that the overall
conservation status of the world's birds has deteriorated steadily since
1988, when they were first comprehensively assessed. This season marks the
publication of the first Rare Birds Yearbook dealing with all 189 species
designated as Critically Endangered by Birdlife International (one of these
resides only a day's journey from Idaho....Can you guess what it is?). This
is a fantastic read that provides so much more than the expected listing of
the world's disappearing birds: 400 plus pictures and/or drawings, special
sections on rediscovered species, climate change, eco-tourism, isotope
technology, preservation programs, extinct species, and much more. I believe
every conservation concerned birder should have and read this book. Maybe
you can consider it your "after holidays" gift to yourself (or a significant
other.)
Follow this link, read the promos...and then order, as I did. (By the way, a
portion of each sale goes to bird conservation efforts around the world.)
