I hit Antelope Island Today. Highlights for me included a PRAIRIE FALCON on
the road leading up to causeway and another at the Garr Ranch. Also a GOLDEN
EAGLE juvenile in flight (yes, I'm sure this time) and a BALD EAGLE watching
some GOLDENEYE'S from the ice. I saw a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE on the way to the
ranch. At the Garr Ranch, found a HERMIT THRUSH along with lots of Towhee's
and song sparrows. Two GREAT HORNED OWLS in a tree and a porcupine that I
could've shaken hands with if not for his defenses. In the creek, which
wasn't frozen yet, on the west side of the woods, I found VIRGINIA RAILS and
what I am fairly confident was a COMMON SNIPE. One kept chasing off Rails in
its area. If anyone else heads that way soon, try to verify for me - another
set of eyes is always appreciated. I saw a couple of these birds so I'd
imagine they are in the area.
