JUst returned from a birding trip--Christmas Present--with daughter Esther.
We started at Tonaquint park on the afternoon of Dec 15 where we found the
following not so common to us:Eared Grebe, Belted Kingfisher, Ruby crowned
Kinglet, Cedar Waxwing, Great Egret, several Hooded Mergansers, common
Merganser, and many American Widgeon. On Wednesday, we traveled to the
Vermillion Cliffs. We traveled 89A to BLM1065; about 5 miles we came to the
release site for the California Condor. We located the release cages. One
sign indicated occasional sighting of the condor. WE were surprised with 7
in the air at one time--six above the release cages and one below. They
all flew away and a short time later two returned. The next day, we
traveled to Lytle Ranch. The fun birds there were: VErdin, Gambel's
Quail,Sandhill Crane,Phainopepla, Rednaped Sapsucker, Say's Phoebe, Black
Throated Sparrow. On the way home we visited, we visited Sand Hollow,
Hurricane sewage pond, Seegmiller'spond, and Quail Creek. On these waters,
we observed many ducks , grebes and herons. Great four days.
