I know, not exactly 3 species you would put in the same category. In any event, this morning I took New York birder Eric Reubel aroudn to several northern Utah locales to tyr and pick up a few lifers. We headed to Alta at first light, where there was a nice little snow storm a blowin'. We checked several feeders including the Ben Hame home, which had no food in the feeders. Our luck changed at The View condominiums where 2 BLACK ROSY-FINCH came in to the feeders and allowed for close viewing of the birds. No Gray-crowned were observed.
After leaving Alta, we headed south to Salem, where a flock of 30~ BOHEMIAN WAXWING were seen on the way to Woodland Hills. We were able to find 2 LEWIS'S WOODPECKER moving about on 400 East where the road goes up the hill.
Lastly, we returned to Salt Lake County and headed to Lee Kay to try for THAYER'S GULL. As luck would have it, the only juvenile gull on the ponds was a 1st winter THAYER'S on the west pond, a different bird than the one seen a couple days ago.
Good Birding
