This Afternoon at about 1 PM I was birding the Willard Bay area and I found a large flock of Canada geese (100+) about 100 yards west of the boat lunching ramp. They were sitting on the ice completely inactive. Most of them had there heads tucked under there wings. They looked odd to me so I broke out my 15 - 60 Scope and looked them over. They Were all about the same size but smaller and a little trimmer the the Canada geese I am used to seeing. I watched them for about 30 minutes and while there a flock of ducks flew over them and two pintail drakes that I had not seen before took off and followed the other ducks. The pintails were smaller than the geese but only about one half as small. I have seen cackling geese in Utah before but never more than one or two at a time. I have seen and heard some large flocks of Aleutian type Canada geese but only in northern California. These birds seem more the size of that type. The whole time I was there I hear not a sound out of them and as it was not to bright I really was unable to make an identification except to say they were Canada geese. If anyone else happens to see them I would like an opinion. Cal Robbins
