I did a little birding around Salt Lake County this afternoon checking out a couple reports from the SLC CBC. I headed to Forest Dale Golf Course in Sugarhouse to look for a mystery duck found by Deedee O'Brien and her squad yesterday. Unfortunately, the duck wasn't found, but a BARROW's and a COMMON GOLDENEYE were present. Next I checked out Fairmont Park to see if the bird had moved a couple blocks to that pond. Again, no mystery duck, but a GADWALL that was reported during the CBC was present, and two new birds in a pair of female HOODED MERGANSER were also present. I swung by Sugarhouse Park, again, no mystery duck... After this I headed up to the Capitol area, and DeSoto Ave/Street on the north side to check out a report of a hummingbird from yesterdays count. I found the feeders, at 571 Desoto, but no hummingbird in the hour I spent watching.
Finally I headed out to the north side of the airport to scan the fields and look through the raptors that were around. 13 Red-tailed Hawk, 11 American Kestrel, 4 Northern Harrier, 2 Rough-legged Hawk, and 1 MERLIN.
