I started the day at 4 am Owling. Started by Jordan River and about 3100 S. I may a lot of robins mad but now owls. Colby Neuman met me at Parleys nature park at 4:30 we both froze for a good 40 minutes and came out empty handed, my ipod freezing didn't help any. We also struck out at the mouth of Emigration Canyon. Colby had to leave to meet his team, and I headed to Red Butte Canyon. At 6:45 when I was about to call it quits I got 3 WESTERN SCREECH OWLs at the locked gate.
After years of crying about that I never have anybody on my team. Pomera found me 5 additional people and I drag my girlfriend kicking and screaming :P. With that many people, it meant a lot less walking for every body. My team had an area high 40 species. We got all three accipiters the N. GOSHAWK was flying by the U mountain after some pigeons. We also saw 3 MERLINS in our area.
The Potluck dinner was a blast as always. A lot of interesting birds were found in this count. The group Covering the Parleys Nature Park found a WESTERN SCREECH and a GREAT HORNED OWL and those two birds were not even considerate enough to give Colby and I a courtesy hoot for our effort this morning.
I also saw a large gray bird flying like a falcon over the avenues today but it was too far and too fast to be identified.

Great fun
A Big Thanks to all my team: Beth, Alan, Doug, Sylvia, Angelique and Joyce. Hope to see you all again next year.

Good Birding
