[Birdtalk] Bear River Refuge Road Project - needs your help

The road needs to be paved. I don't like driving on washboard. I don't like eating dust. I do like birding. I do like providing a positive experience to visitors to our state. More visitors means greater resources for improving the refuge. More locals will visit the refuge if it is not a bone jarring, teeth gritting experience. Easier access to a world class birding experience means greater environmental enlightenment for more people. People appreciate and protect what they can see, touch, and feel. In the long run I believe that birds will benefit more from greater exposure. Observable wildlife is important to the environmental movement. Do you remember the hook bird that brought you into birding? We need to give more people the opportunity to see their "hook" bird. Birding already has too many exclusive, private elements that discourages beginning birders. Bashing the refuge road project may endanger the project, but most certainly will not put one penny into your SLC backyard projects. Buck Russell
