[Birdtalk] Grackles and others

I saw around 6 grackles in the Target parking lot in Centerville
yesterday around 6 pm. They were flying by as I got out of my car and
one landed on the light pole next to my car and stared at me for a bit -
kinda like announcing it was there - 'hey, look at me'.

Also, just a FYI - I had 7 lesser yellowlegs out at the Inland
Sea Shorebird Reserve yesterday (west of the airport near GSL). They
were puffed out like little balls up to their bellies in water. I was
showing a non-birder the site and he thought they looked too fat to fly.
I also saw swans, lots of ducks, one bald and two golden eagles,
rough-legged hawk, kestrel, harriers, white-crowned sparrows,
meadowlarks, horned larks, red-winged blackbirds, starlings, magpie,
red-tailed hawk, around 15 ravens, 2 coyotes frolicking and being fussed
at by a raven (very strange pursuit by the raven - flew over the
coyotes, and landed nearby 3 times as the coyotes were moving 200 yards,
once one coyote did a little pouncing movement toward the raven, but the
raven kept on pursuing), male pheasant, and, in one of my ditches, a
common merganser. I couldn't look at the sparrows, ducks, and larks
closely as I had to get the visitor back to the office.
