Box Elder County:
-- A beautiful adult RUDDY TURNSTONE in breeding plumage was found by Kris Purdy
in the southeast corner of Unit 2 at Bear River NWR on Saturday, August 18th.
The bird continued on the morning of the 19th.
-- Several STILT SANDPIPER were reported between August 11th and 14th in the
southeast corner of Unit 2 at Bear River NWR.
-- GLOSSY IBIS were reported by Jack Binch, as well as Colby Neuman and Tim
Avery at Bear River NWR, between August 11th and 18th.
Davis County:
-- A BLUE-HEADED VIREO was reported by Merrill Webb at Garr Ranch on Saturday,
August 18th. The bird was seen south of the spring house along the fence-line
just past the gate that leads to the spring area. The bird was seen and
photographed again on August 20th in the same are by Tim Avery.
-- A LEAST FLYCATCHER was reported and photographed by Tim Avery at Garr Ranch
on Monday, August 20th.
-- A juvenile TENNESSE WARBLER was reported by Joel and Kathy Beyer at Garr
Ranch in the bushes just behind the spring house on Monday, August 13th.
-- 2 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH were reported by Joel and Kathy Beyer at Garr Ranch
along the stream behind the bunk house on Monday, August 13th.
-- A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was reported by Tim Avery along the AIC near MM6 on the
north side, on Friday, August 17th.

Aug 22nd (Wed): Wasatch Audubon Society Bird Walk - Morgan Water Treatment
Facility - Meet at McDonalds (5745 S. Harrison) at 7:30 for breakfast or at
8:00 to carpool.
Aug 25th (Sat): Great Salt Lake Audubon & Salt Lake Birders Field Trip - MIRROR
LAKE -- UINTA MOUNTAINS - Leader: Dave Hanscom - Meet in the southeast corner
of the Shopko parking lot in Sugarhouse, leaving at 7:00am, or at the Ranger
Station in Kamas by 8:00am. Call Dave (435-649-3213) for more information or to
let him know you will be there. This trip will be in conjunction with Salt Lake
Birders. Dave will lead us to Mirror Lake with stops along the way. If we are
lucky, we may see Pine Grosbeaks, Three-toed Woodpecker, Williamson's
Sapsucker, Clark's Nutcracker, and Gray Jay.
Aug 25th (Sat): Utah County Birders Field Trip - Uintah Mountains - Mirror Lake
area. Day trip, leave Borders at Riverwood Mall, Provo 6:30 a.m.
Aug 25th (Sat): Bridgerland Audubon Society Field Trip - Tony Grove Geology -
Come experience awesome geology, beautiful wild flowers, and numerous
warblers??? USU geologist Dave Liddell will talk about the geology of the Tony
Grove area and lead a hike around the lake. For the more adventurous among you,
there will be a visit to a cave located high above the lake. Please note that
helmets and lights are required to visit the cave. Also, the hike to the cave
is short, but strenuous. Meet in the parking lot between Café Ibis and the
Logan Fire Station (50 East 150 North) at 8 a.m. Feel free to contact Dave if
you have any questions (davel at cc.usu.edu, 435-881-3120).
Aug 25th (Sat): Wasatch Audubon Society Field Trip - Kayaking at Mantua - Meet
at Harmon's (2nd St.& Harrisville) at 8:00 to carpool. Trip limit is 20 people.
If we have over 10 well split up, with half on the lake and half birding Box
Elder campground and then switch places. email Scott Baxter
(scottbaxter at att.net) to reserve your place. Bring a lunch.
Aug 25th (Sat): Layton Wild Bird Center Bird Walk - Nature Conservancy, West
Layton Great Salt Lake Shoreline Preserve - Saturday Bird Walks leave from the
Wild Bird Center (1860 N. 1000 West, Layton) at 8 a.m, in spring/summer, unless
otherwise posted.
Aug 26th (Sun): Great Salt Lake Audubon Field Trip - WILLARD BAY STATE PARK -
Leader: Kathy Coleman - Meet at the southeast corner of the Sugarhouse Shopko
parking lot for a 7:00AM departure. This is a good time of year to see
migrating warblers. Bring water, lunch, and a state park pass if you have one,
or money to help with the entrance fee. Call Kathy Coleman (944-5773) to
attend.
Aug 29th (Wed): Great Salt Lake Audubon Field Trip - FARMINGTON BAY AND NEARBY
AREA - Leaders: Bob Huntington and Deedee O'Brien - Join us for our monthly
half-day visit to Farmington Bay. Meet inside the McDonald's just north of the
Centerville exit from I-15 at 7:00AM for breakfast and camaraderie or 7:30AM to
head out. Bring your own water and snacks. Call Deedee O'Brien (801-272-8060)
if you plan to attend.
Aug 29th (Wed): Wasatch Audubon Society Bird Walk - Maples CG, Snowbasin - Meet
at Dylans (12th & Monroe) at 7:30 for breakfast or at 8:00 to carpool.
Sept 7th-9th (Fri-Sun): Utah Ornithological Society Fall Conference - Friday,
September 7: Field trips, evening social and speaker - Saturday, September 8:
Paper & Poster Session at the Bean Museum - Sunday, September 9: Field trips.
