Davis County:
-- A WHIMBREL was reported by Tim Avery at Antelope Island Causeway on
Wednesday, August 8th near the 1st bridge on the northside of the causeway.
Juab County:
-- The PAINTED BUNTING continues at the picnic area at Fish Springs NWR and was
most recently seen on Tuesday, August 7th by Glenda Cotter and Marie Adams.
-- The REDDISH EGRET in Avocet unit at Fish Springs NWR continues and was most
recently seen on Tuesday, August 7th by Glenda Cotter and Marie Adams.
San Juan County:
-- A possible CHIHUAHUAN RAVEN was reported by Tim Avery from Hickman Flats Road
just north of Monticello on Friday, August 3rd.
Utah County:
-- A GREEN HERON has been hanging around the Provo Airport Dike for at least a
week now and was most recently reported by Larry Draper on Tuesday, August 7th.
The bird has been seen in a the dead tree at the south east corner of the
Provo Airport dike (not the extreme south east corner of the extension, just
the south east corner).
Washington County:
-- 2 RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were reported by Merrill Webb at Lytle Ranch on
Tuesday, August 7th. The birds were seen in the vicinity of the orchard.

Upcoming Birding Events:
Aug 8th (Wed): Wasatch Audubon Society Bird Walk - Birdsong Trail Area - Meet at
Dylans (12th & Monroe) at 7:30 for breakfast or at SW corner of Rainbow
Gardens parking lot at 8:15.
Aug 8th (Wed): Utah County Birders Annual Summer Social Potluck - We will meet
at 6:30 p.m. at Cascade Park - 950 East 200 North, Orem, where we have reserved
a pavilion in case of afternoon showers. Please bring a potluck dish to share.
Meat (Chicken) and Drinks will be provided. Bring your own plates, utensils and
cups. See you there.
Aug 10th (Fri): Great Salt Lake Audubon Field Trip - CANYON WALKS -- LAMB'S
CANYON (from MILLCREEK CANYON) - Leader: Allene Keller - Meet by 8:00am in the
parking lot just west of the REI on 33rd South and 3285 East. We will be hiking
to Lamb's Canyon Pass from Millcreek Canyon. This trail does have some
elevation gain. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a Millcreek Canyon pass if
you have one. If you have any questions, or plan on attending, call Allene at
467-3960.
Aug 10th (Fri): Wasatch Audubon Society Bird Walk - Top of Snowbasin - Meet at
Dylans (12th and Monroe) at 8:00 for breakfast or at 8:30 to carpool. Note
that this trip is on FRIDAY because the lift runs only Fri.-Sun. Lift cost:
$12:00 per person.
Aug 11th (Sat): Bridgerland Audubon Society Field Trip - Perseids Meteor Shower
and perhaps Owls - Come spend an evening exploring the summer skies. We will
travel to a dark sky site off the Tony Grove Lake road and spend the time from
sunset till the wee morning hours looking at the splendors of the summer milky
way. The Perseid meteor show will also be taking place this evening. Several
telescopes will be set up. Bring a lawn chair, telescope and binoculars if you
have them and dress warmly. Meet in the parking lot between Café Ibis and the
Logan Fire Station (50 East 150 North) at 7:30 p.m. Please contact Dave Liddell

Aug 15th (Wed): Great Salt Lake Audubon Field Trip - BRIGHTON -- BIG COTTONWOOD
CANYON - Leader: Colby Neuman - Meet in the parking lot at the entrance to Big
Cottonwood Canyon by 7:00am. This trip will involve hiking around the ski
resort, looking for migrating flocks of songbirds and White-winged Crossbills.

Aug 15th (Wed): Wasatch Audubon Society Bird Walk - North Fork Park, Eden - Meet
at McDonalds (Washington & 2600 N, N. Ogden) at 7:30 for breakfast or at 8:00
to carpool.
Aug 18th (Sat): Great Salt Lake Audubon & Salt Lake Birders Field Trip - MIRROR
LAKE -- UINTA MOUNTAINS - Leader: Dave Hanscom - Meet in the southeast corner
of the Shopko parking lot in Sugarhouse, leaving at 7:00am, or at the Ranger
Station in Kamas by 8:00am. Call Dave (435-649-3213) for more information or to
let him know you will be there. This trip will be in conjunction with Salt Lake
Birders. Dave will lead us to Mirror Lake with stops along the way. If we are
lucky, we may see Pine Grosbeaks, Three-toed Woodpecker, Williamson's
Sapsucker, Clark's Nutcracker, and Gray Jay.
