Utah Birders,
Cher and I spotted a Solitary Sandpiper at Bear River MBR Sunday morning. It was in the canal along the southern road, south of the main impoundment, ca. 2 miles fr the SE corner. It landed on exposed mud â unable to take a picture. We tried to photograph it repeatedly but it was a bit nervous and eventually it flew off behind us and was gone.
Tringa in structure, short dark gray legs, thin bill, obvious eye ring, heavy coloration of the breast, and it bob-ed twice. When it flew off the legs were not readily visible behind the tail (lightly barred, no white transverse upper white pattern on the wings).
Kris - did not know this was unusual until later, send me a note and I will provide documentation as I do not have email addresses at this time. Thanks!
Other note: today there were 5 White-winged Crossbills flying from the Tony Grove Campground over the road. Characteristic call notes and white wing panels.
