[Birdtalk] Heard My First Hummingbird of Spring 2007

I knew I would kick myself if I didn't act on Matthew's report below and the private encouragement of friends to get my hummingbird feeders out. So yesterday morning, I brewed up a batch of hummer juice and then proceeded to do my yard work while the water cooled. Of course, a Broad-tailed Hummingbird zinged over the house while I was outside and before the feeders were out...! So yes, I'm kicking myself. The feeders are out now and perhaps I'll snag the second one I hear out in the yard.

This arrival seems to be 10-14 days early for the Ogden area. My usual first sighting/audible record of a Broad-tailed Hummingbird is April 26-28.

You know the moral of the story...get your feeders out!

This afternoon, while at a BBQ up Emigration Canyon (Salt Lake County), in the upper Emigration Oaks neighborhood, at about 3:45 p.m. I heard a hummingbird. I did not see it, but did hear the distinctive hummer sound. It flew in the area briefly and then quickly disappeared. I did not hear it again in the remaining hour that I was at that location. (I've got my Hummingbird feeders out, just need to get them filled, better do it soon...:-)
