Box Elder County:

-- 5 Horned Grebe were seen by Wasatch Audubon and reported by Kris Purdy on
the sewage pond north of Willard Bay State Park on April 4th.



Cache County

-- A VARIED THRUSH was reported by Sue Drown in Smithfield near Mack Park on
April 1st.  Apparently this thrush was seen earlier in the year but hasn't been
reported in quite some time.



Davis County:

-- 3 Long-tailed Duck were reported by the Great Salt Lake Audubon field
Trip at AIC on April 1st. The birds were hanging out where the causeway
curves, on the north
side about 150 yards from the shore. There was 1 male bird and 2
females. This represents the 4th latest spring record for this species
in Utah.



Grand County:

-- A Black Phoebe was reported by Dave Slager on the Dolores river about a mile
upstream from the confluence with the Colorado river in Grand Co on Sunday
afternoon, April 1st.



Juab County:

-- 3 Greater Scaup were reported by Tim Avery on Chicken Creek Reservoir
on March 30th.



Wasatch County:

-- 26 Common Loons were reported by Colby Neuman and Tim Avery on
Jordanelle Reservoir on April 1st. This is the first large movement of
loons this spring.


Washington County:

-- The LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCH photographed on March 20th by Bob Lawson in
his backyard in Dammeron Valley was relocated on March 30th by Tim Avery
in the afternoon. The bird was then seen again
during the morning of March 31st and seen by Bob Lawson, Jack Binch and
Larry Tripp. Attempts to locate the bird in the afternoon were unsuccessful.

Dammeron Valley is southeast of Veyo along route 18 about 17 miles north
of St. George.

-- A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was reported singing by Tim Avery, north of
Lytle Ranch in the Beaver Dam Wash on March 31st. The bird was heard
several times and was located just over 1/2 a mile
north of where the road washes out on the north end of the ranch.

-- A BROAD-WINGED HAWK was reported by Larry Tripp migrating through central
Washington County on April 2.

-- A Common Black-Hawk was reported by Tim Avery in the Beaver Dam Wash,
north of Lytle Ranch on March 31st.

-- The first Bell's Vireo of the season were reported by Tim Avery at
Lytle Ranch on March 31st.

-- The first White-throated Swifts of the season were reported by Rick
Fridell, flying over his home in Washington County on March 31st.

-- A flock of 14 Bank Swallow were reported by Tim Avery over Gunlock
Reservoir on March 30th. This is the first report of this species for 2007.

Upcoming Birding Events:

April 7th (Sat): Layton Wild Bird Center walk will visit the East Canyon
Sage Grouse Lek (leaving at 5:30 a.m.). Contact Bill Fenimore for more
information.

April 11th (Wed): Great Salt Lake Audubon Field Trip - GREATER
SAGE-GROUSE LEK, HENEFER - Leader: Roberta Wherritt. This is a wonderful
opportunity to witness the spectacular pageantry of male Sage Grouse
strutting on their ancestral lek at dawn. You may leave afterwards or
join us for breakfast in Morgan, and continue birding in the Henefer
area. Meet in SE corner of ShopKo parking lot in Sugarhouse (behind Red
Lobster) near 1300 East exit from I-80 by 5:15am to receive handouts
giving directions and Lek etiquette information, and to arrange
carpools.The drive to Henefer takes about an hour. Call Roberta
(274-3058) if you plan to attend.

April 11th (Wed): Wasatch Audubon Society Bird Walk - Fielding Garr
Ranch: Meet at 7:00 at McDonald�s (Riverdale Rd & 900 W) for breakfast,
be there at 7:30 to carpool, or meet at 8:00 at the Antelope I. entrance
lot. We�ll drive directly to the ranch and check out the rest of the
island afterwards. (Fee area.)

April 11th (Wed): Utah County Birders Meeting - Time, Location & Speaker
