Looks like Black Phoebes have been seen in San Juan and Garfield
Counties too. (That kind of fills in the gaps).

I got some checklists in the mail yesterday from Jens and Kathy Munthe
in Garfield Co. that shows Black Phoebe as being an "uncommon spring
and summer" bird and "probable breeder" in Escalante Petrified Forest
State Park and Wide Hollow Reservoir.

Lu Giddings, who is preparing a checklist for San Juan County, wrote:

...black phoebe will have RS, RT status. It is known to nest in San
Juan county; I know of two nest sites from last year and would be very
surprised if there were not more. A pair were already present in
Montezuma Canyon three weeks ago when I made a quick trip south. It is
my belief that the bird follows both the Colorado and the Green quite a
bit further north than most people believe. I suspect the black phoebe
that Merrill found up Diamond Fork a few years ago made it's way north
by following the Green River north and then one or more of its
tributaries - probably the Duchesne? - west. My $.02. Lu

Looks like Black Phoebes have been seen in counties in the southern
third of the state (as well as three in the north -- Millard, Utah and
Salt Lake).

Very interesting! Good to know,
Milt
