I went out on the Causeway this afternoon, around 1pm, and noted several HORNED GREBES as well. Not as many as Tim found, but more than I was expecting. Sorry about not counting. I did not see any BONAPARTE'S GULLS, and now I'm disappointed. It sounds like they were all there earlier. The LONG-BILLED CURLEWS (3), were probably in the same area. They were very close together, and sunning themselves on the South side of the Causeway, maybe a 1/4 mile before the bridge. I was treated however, with several little surprises, other than what Tim had seen:
PRAIRIE FALCON (sparring with a No. Harrier, over territorial limits)
AMERICAN PELICAN, (just one, on the North side about 1 mile after the entrance)
The AMERICAN PIPPITS were still numerous, but the WESTERN GREBE was not there, and neither was the SURF SCOTER that has been reported earlier. BEAUTIFUL DAY out there, and more to come.

This morning I birded the causeway as well as Kaysville Ponds. At AIC were an
unusually high concentration of HORNED GREBE, near the marina. I counted 21 in
all, which seems to be high count? Cany anyone recall having numbers like this
in the past? Also of note was a single WESTERN GREBE on the water at the
marina. A good number of BONAPARTE'S GULL (350~) were seen along the
causeway, with most bird being on the northside as I left around 11:30. Also a
large flock of AMERICAN PIPIT (150~)was near MM 3.
At Kaysville Ponds were 3 HOODED MERGANSER, 2 male and 1 female, as this spot
remains the most reliable location for this species each winter.
