This morning I found a Pacific Loon on the Hyrum Reservoir. The bird was in the water just east of the "beach" entrance to the state park. On the far east end of the reservoir, on the southern shore (I was standing on the bluff on the northern shore) was a Great Egret. The bird had a yellow bill and all black legs and feet (I waited for it to pull its feet out of the water to make sure that it did not have yellow socks). About 20 feet away from the bird was a Great Blue Heron. Other birds on the reservoir included a Bufflehead, Gadwall, Redhead, Mallards, American Coot, Clark's Grebe, Western Grebe, and Northern Shovelers. In the trees on the shore I found Cedar Waxwings, Black-billed Magpie (I saw one attacking a Kestrel), and the ever present Starlings. It was a great day birding. To compensate for this great morning, karma balanced the scale by causing the battery in my camera to be dead.
