Greetings
My youngest daughter is currently an intern with the Institute for Bird
Population's program known as MAWS (Monitoring Avian Winter Survival) at Ft.
Chaffee, Arkansas. I drove down there over the weekend to pick her up and
bring her back home for the Thanksgiving break, and I got to spend some time
helping them band birds on one of the 6 sites at this fort. It was a lot of
fun; I got to handle some birds that I have not banded before. We caught 34
birds that morning, including Fox Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, Swamp
Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, Song Sparrow, Hermit Thrush, Golden-crowned
Kinglet, and Brown Thrasher. Since they were also color-banding some of
these species, we kept pretty busy, but I did manage to get some portraits
of some of these species. They can be seen at

Cheers
