Bridgerland Audubon took a field trip today to Steel Canyon, which is just north of Clarkston, UT. In the fields just east of the canyon we found two Short-eared Owls, Grasshopper Sparrows, and Vesper Sparrows. The road leading in to the canyon is fairly rough (you’ve been warned). In the canyon we found Dusky Flycatchers, Willow Flycatcher, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Plumbeous Vireo, House Wrens, Green-tailed Towhee, Spotted Towhee, Red-tailed Hawk, Lazuli Bunting, Barn Swallow, Chipping Sparrow, and Re-naped Sapsucker. I also found two Nashville Warblers. No one else saw these birds as I was bringing up the rear on the hike out. Based on Jeffrey R. Saffle's great Hotline email, I should probably take up fly-fishing.
Thanks.
