[Birdtalk] Ethics conundrum

Hi Guys,
We are having a lovely spring in South Weber. We have at least two MALE
BULLOCKS ORIOLES. We have them in the same tree often. There could be
more, it's hard to say. Our nectar feeders are being visited by the
Orioles, House Finches and now our American Goldfinches. This is the first
year I have seen them on the nectar feeders.
On Saturday we had two Cedar WAXWINGS here eating the blossoms of our apple
and cherry trees. I had no idea they ate flower petals.
We have pine siskins back now as well. It is a busy backyard.
I discovered this weekend that starlings have started nesting in our eaves.
There is a crack that gets two inches wide. I have no idea how long there
has been a crack in the vinyl panels of our house eaves. To add to the
convenience for the Starlings, the water spout is right outside so they can
land on the water drain, gather their balance and hop into the hole. Coming
out, they have to put out a wing and sort of fall into a flight. Not the
best situation but the little monsters have made it home.
I was going to get the ladder and seal the hole after making them leave (via
pounding and yelling) but I saw them taking worms in the hole. I have
notices starlings flying that direction in the last couple of weeks with
nesting material but I incorrectly assumed they were nesting in the spruce.
How do I get rid of them? I cannot STAND starlings but nestlings?
Thoughts, comments, commiseration?
Brenda
