Regarding whether these birds have been missed in years past
my opinion is that they are just beginning to arrive in
numbers here in Idaho. I know one birder that scrutinized
thousands of White-face Ibis over the past six or eight
years looking for a Glossy in the same locations I am now
finding them. He is very sharp and I don't think he missed
many. The first one was found last summer at Camas NWR.
This year there are numerous birds present and they are not
difficult to find. I've located at least one Glossy or
hybrid roughly half the times I've stopped and checked a
flock.
