I've been seeing Common grackles in the northern portion of Fairmont
Park (mixed in with Brewer's blackbirds) for a couple years now (though
I've not looked for them LATELY). I usually encounter them west of the
swimming pool located at the NE corner of the park, but they move about,
sometimes into adjacent neighborhoods. Listen for their calls and look
for their vertically held tails in flight. It was an unexpected
addition to my yard list a while back. Right now the pond at the park
is visited by pelicans (there are big koi/carp there) and a while back a
Mandarin duck male with a female of either Wood duck or Mandarin duck
were waddling about in the little stream that leaves the pond.
